A couple years ago (ok, more than a few), I became really interested in buying a digital camcorder. Like most people new to the trade, I wanted to purchase the latest digital camcorder that featured the best technology. I always enjoyed looking at the flashy camcorder magazines to check out pictures, and read articles and reviews on the latest camcorders.

However, once I became serious about wanting to buy one, it suddenly occurred to me, as I was reading the magazine reviews, that almost every single one had a positive slant. Virtually every review I read, discussed only the benefits and cool features of the camcorders.

Sample video of “HD” recording on the Vivitar DVR 810HD camcorder, uploaded directly from the camera’s flash memory drive. It encodes the video as 1280×720 “720P” MJPEG at 20 frames per second (yes, 20!) but a close-up look at the footage reveals obvious pixellation, so the actual resolution is not really “HD” at all. And as you can see, the slow 20 fps rate leads to smeary, blurry footage during any kind of fast motion. Its microphone did not pick up much of the outdoors ambience (birds chirping, etc.) but yet overmodulated my voice. Overall, if you want *real* HD video at a budget price, get a Kodak Zi6 on sale for $99.99, or maybe even the Best Buy Insignia HD camcorder at that price. I’ve got a far better results than the initial reviews that I’ve seen in YouTube, sorry guys… I used Class 6 SDHC card and recommend it highly, do not use slow speed flash memory cards, ever! using fast speed flash memory card & a tripod ensures creating your best, and it should get rid of jello effects and choppy videos. sweet spot for this high definition MP4 Bloggie should have been between $149.00 - $169.00 to give a jolt to Flipsss… also a slip-on lens shade and a manual focus on this Bloggie would be too much to ask… it’s an awesome toy-camcorder for the money! edited w PowerDirector v8 updated 02Apr10 / 08Jul10 SD
